Down on the Farm

Wet Spring!

The rain and cold weather is what's going on here at Carleton's.  Good news is that we planted our 1st planting of sweet corn.  If weather cooperates, it should emerge from the dirt in next two weeks.  Our lettuce is coming nicely in our hoop house as well.  We should have lettuce in in our Market in two weeks.

We've improved our field equipment this year which allows for faster field preparation and more efficient means to breakup the soils.  Reid has already worked up the corn and pumpkin fields to allow for oxygen content improving the level of healthy micro-organisms in the soils.  Winter rains tend to create top-seal cutting off oxygen supplies, so we have to break this seal every Spring.  We will work soils a few more times before planting to keep this top layer loose once the rains subside.

I will post an update on our field work and new practices later this spring.

Happy Farming!

Farmer Darren

Remember, we are only 30 minutes north of Seattle, 5 minutes out of Everett and 6 minutes from Snohomish.

A Little About Us

Mary Carleton We are a working farm that grows vegetables and sells them directly to the public throughout the summer. Our 60-acre farm is along the Ebey Slough in the north end of Snohomish Valley just outside of Everett. The soils in Snohomish Valley grow wonderful sweet corn that our customers seek out year-after-year. We’ve been farming here for more than 40 years.

In October we open our fields for our Pumpkin Family Festival with a big pumpkin harvest. It's our most exciting time, with wagon rides, a pumpkin cannon and food. We spend much of the year preparing for it... planting the fields, creating the corn maze, and thinking of fun things for folks like you to do. If you have comments or suggestions, we'd love to hear them. Email us at the link shown on the bottom of this page.
